How Hurgada came to be

It began in 1905, which was in the 20th century. It was a small town with simple houses where fishermen lived. Even now, there is still a city feel. It found oil in 1913 and started selling it abroad in 1921.

In 1980, it became a very popular place for tourists to go. It got its name from the plants that grew there naturally, or from the name of a deserted place called “Disha Hurgada.”

What can you do in Hurghada?

Tourists often go to Hurgada for their Christmas and New Year’s vacations. It is known for its clear waters and colourful marine life. You can do water sports like scuba diving and snorkelling, or you can just watch the coral and fish swim by.

Hurgada has three areas: el-Dahar, which is the oldest and has a bazaar, Sigala, which has resorts, restaurants, and hotels, and el-Memsha, which is the most modern part of town. There are also islands like Giftun, Shaab Abu Ramada, and Magawish, as well as resorts like el-Gouna, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay, and Sahl Hashish near Hurgada.

Hurgada is also known for its desert, where you can go on a safari and have dinner at an oasis.

It is called the city of 100 minarets because there are so many mosques there. You can also take a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan to see the beauty of the pure Nile and visit most of Egypt’s temples, such as the Karnak Temple, the Luxor Temple, and the Abu Simbel Temple, which has a big festival on October 22 and February 22.
